Boss Effects Pedal Guide: Useful Helpers

Why do I need useful helpers?

With the distortion, modulation effects, delay and reverb you have already gotten to know some important effect types. You can use Boss 's useful helpers to complement your effects chain and optimize your sound . In this guides you will learn what tuners, equalizer , noise gates and the like can do and how you can best integrate them into your effects chain. In the video, Olli explains the most important helpers and how to use them. Below you will find an overview of the different pedals and their functions.

What useful helpers are there?

There are of course a variety of useful helpers in pedal form, here we have explained the most important four to you. Below you will find an overview of all of Boss's useful helpers.

tuner

A floor tuner like the Boss TU-3 can be integrated into your effects chain if you don't want to use a clip-on tuner . However, since Boss pedals have an integrated buffer that changes the signal, you should place the tuner at the beginning of the effects chain to achieve the most accurate tuning possible.

looper

With a looper you can record your signal and then play it back and use it as background sound . This gives you the opportunity to get to grips with song structures and develop a better feel for harmonies. looper are also ideal for creating sound landscapes and for solo performances.

Noise gate

A noise gate is ideal for avoiding unwanted noise, be it due to strong distortion or a long signal chain. They are best used after the distortions, as these are usually the cause of the noise. reverb and delay definitely belong behind the noise gate, otherwise this could cut off the beautiful, expressive reverb tails.

equalizer

An equalizer, often referred to as an EQ for short, gives you very precise control over your signal. You can determine and adjust exactly which frequencies you want to be more or less prominent in your signal. Depending on the effect setting, an equalizer can be placed anywhere in the effects chain. Sometimes it makes sense to use multiple EQs, for example in front of and after the distortion section.
