About Slash

Slash, whose real name is Saul Hudson, was born in London and grew up in England. After he started playing an electric bass but quickly gave up on this instrument, he got his first acoustic guitar at the age of 15, on which he learned to play the guitar. The first musical influences came from guitarists such as Rory Gallagher, Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck, but also from rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Queen and Aerosmith. After dropping out of school, he went to Los Angeles and met drummer Steven Adler, with whom he founded the band Road Crew . After Slash and Adler received a demo from guitarist Izzy Stradlin, which also featured Axl Rose on vocals, the musicians agreed to meet. Stradlin and Rose had trouble keeping their own band, Hollywood Rose, together. After their first appearances together, both bands merged to form Guns N' Roses and became highly successful.

In 1996, Slash left Guns N' Roses after tensions with Axl Rose and the other band members and went on to play guitar with Velvet Revolver and Slash's Snakepit. In 2010 he released his first solo album Slash, which was followed by four more solo albums. His next album, named Orgy of the Damned is about to be released in 2024. Rolling Stone ranked him 65th on the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.

Low End electric guitars for Slash fans

Slash himself almost exclusively plays Gibson guitars, mostly Les Paul models. However, these are very expensive because they are true classics that are carefully handcrafted in the USA. As a subsidiary of Gibson, Epiphone produces their models as low-budget variants, which are very well suited for entry into the world of the slash sound. The Epiphone Slash models are also available as affordable signature models of the Guns N' Roses guitarist.

Slash about his guitars

In the first video, Slash introduces you to his extensive guitar collection and tells you the story behind each individual instrument and what he uses it for. The second video introduces you to the affordable guitars in the Epiphone Slash Collection. Have fun watching!

High end and signature electric guitars of Slash

As mentioned above, Slash is a big fan and endorser of the Gibson brand. He has numerous signature models to his name, both electric and acoustic guitars, which are precisely tailored to Slash's needs and are therefore best suited to imitating his characteristic sound. In his long career, Slash has built up a large collection of guitars. He favours Gibson Les Paul models, but his collection also includes several Firebirds, Explorers, ES models and SGs.

The Gibson Slash Collection

We would like to once again recommend the Gibson Slash Collection, a collection of instruments that Slash designed together with the Gibson team. These guitars are customised to Slash's wishes and needs down to the smallest detail. As a result, they not only have a high-quality feel, but are also easy to play and deliver exactly the sound you need if you want to emulate Slash.

The Gibson Slash Collection consists of both electric and acoustic guitars made by Gibson's highly skilled luthiers in the USA. Some models are only available in limited quantities and there are new models to discover on a regular basis.

Discover the Gibson Slash Collection

“Developing my new Collection with the new team at Gibson has been really exciting. The quality and attention to detail is next level, and these guitars truly reflect what I play live and in the studio. I think guitarists will be inspired by what we’ve put together.”

Alternative electric guitars for the perfect Slash sound

If it doesn't have to be a Gibson for you, but you are more interested in the sound than the brand, you should take a look at the following instruments. These are offered by other manufacturers and are based on classic Gibson models, such as those played by Slash himself.

Slash's amplifiers

Slash mostly relies on the British sound of various Marshall amplifiers, which he combines with the matching speaker cabinets, also from Marshall. Every now and then he also plays through a Roland Jazz Chorus.
