The right posture for playing the saxophone
The be-all and end-all of saxophone playing
The most expensive saxophone is useless to you if you approach playing with the wrong posture. A steady stance and an upright posture are basic prerequisites for good saxophone playing. If you already have problems handling a tenor saxophone physically, the much larger baritone saxophone is certainly the wrong choice for you. So not only the instrument's range, but also your own height help determine which sax is right for you.
Where to put your hands
Use your left hand to operate the upper keys of the saxophone. Place your left thumb on the plate on the back, wrap your hand around the body tube and place your other fingers on the corresponding keys. Place your right thumb under the thumb rest and curve your hand so that your fingertips point forwards. Which finger of your right hand ultimately operates which key will fall into place automatically.

Just let it hang
Whatever saxophone you finally choose, it's advisable — because of the weight — to use a comfortable and practical neck strap. The strap is correctly adjusted when, with an upright posture, the mouthpiece is at the same height as your mouth. We've put together a selection of comfortable neck straps in our webshop for you.
