Everything you need to know about looper pedals and how they work is right here.

Live Looping – Level 1
In the first episode of our Live Looping series, Robin shows you how he uses his looper pedal live. He enriches his loop performance with complementary solos and vocal tracks. Sometimes it can be that simple.
What is a loop?
First we’ll clarify what actually lies behind a loop. Fundamentally, a loop is a term for unchanged and repeating sequences. These sequences can consist of drum and percussion elements, accompaniment rhythms, basslines, melodic phrases, but also any kind of vocal recordings. As always, imagination knows no bounds here and is only limited by your own creativity.
Contemporary pop and dance music prove to us time and again that we’re by no means at the peak with these “always-repeating-sequences”. The genre of loop music is moving and constantly evolving. We owe this forward movement not least to artists such as Ed Sheeran, Jamie Woon or Reggie Watts (to name just a few familiar faces).

How does a looper pedal work?
A looper pedal combines basic functions of a recording program/sequencer in a compact device. Track by track, recordings can be added and stacked on top of each other. In expert circles this is referred to as overdubs. Looper pedals are, in most cases, stepped on with the feet operated with the foot, although you’ll increasingly find stompboxes in modern keyboard and synthesizer setups, where the pedal is placed on the housing surface at the edge of the device and is operated with the palm of the hand. Depending on the looper’s features, pressing the pedal allows you to layer and control song structures piece by piece and/or apply numerous effects. You can then improvise over these arrangements or, if you don’t have a band to hand, practise and develop your solos. Larger units often offer a variety of inputs and outputs, allowing various instruments, microphones and effects to be connected simultaneously and, depending on the musician’s skill, recorded or run through.
