Stage pianos for advanced players and professionals
Advanced players often look for even more authentic piano sounds and thus higher polyphony, improved dynamic response and additional features for live performance. From mid-range to high-end, the models range from the Yamaha CP88, CP73 and Korg Grandstage 88, via the Kawai MP-11, up to the Roland RD-2000. All stage pianos impress with an even more realistic grand piano sound as well as enhanced dynamics and hammer action. Only the striking red-lit pianos from Sweden are even more popular for stage use. In the pro league the choice usually falls on the Clavia Nord Piano 4 or the Clavia Nord Stage 3 88. Both models offer a popular and very precise key response. All important functions on the Nord instruments are located on the clear control panel and can be selected directly from there. What’s special about the Clavia models is that you can repeatedly load new sounds (Update: Nord Piano Library) from the manufacturer’s library directly into the stage piano’s flash memory. That way the sound always stays up to date and tailored to your own preferences. In addition, the Nord Stage 3 88 impresses with its organ section. Behind it is a digital drawbar organ that allows modulation of organ sounds, as well as a variety of other controls and knobs for live use. Which stage piano you ultimately choose is, as always, down to your own taste and, of course, a bit to how full your wallet is. Under the tough conditions of everyday stage life, practically any stage piano will hold up.
