Roland V-Drum Guide
The electronic drum kits — also called E-Drums — from Roland's V-Drum range are a real blessing. Both for those who practise at home and don't want to upset the neighbours, and for live drummers who want quick access to a wide palette of sounds and at the same time need to get on the same page as the sound engineer, who will appreciate the straightforward wiring.
With such a comprehensive range it's easy to lose track. With our Roland V-Drum Guide we therefore want to give you a helping hand with your purchase decision.
One thing applies across the board: the more you invest in a V-Drum, the more realistic the playing feel becomes and the more extensive the features of the drum module — the sound-generating, technical heart of every electronic drum set.
It's also worth mentioning that drum thrones, sticks, headphones, kick pedals and, if needed, hi-hat controllers are not included in the standard delivery of the drum kits. That way you can use the components you prefer or those you might already own. For the models marked with the “Set Available” banner, we've already prepared complete packages for you.
For clarity, this guide follows the sound modules of the individual drumsets, starting with the V-Drum flagship.

TD-50X Sound Module
Designed for professionals and the most demanding players
TD-50K2
The TD-50 is the flagship of Roland's V-Drum range and leaves nothing to be desired. In addition to the snare and ride pads, the hi-hat pad here is also digital. The powerful TD-50X sound module is packed with technical possibilities. 14 separate trigger inputs, three digital trigger inputs, separate direct outputs for monitoring and one balanced and one unbalanced stereo master output leave nothing to be desired when it comes to wiring. The over 900 sounds can be extensively edited and, thanks to the integrated mixer on the top of the unit, levels can be set directly as required.
TD-50KV2
The TD-50KV2 is especially geared towards live use and makes a great impression on every stage thanks to the deeper tom pads, the larger crash pad and, above all, the large kick pad.
VAD706
As the ultimate fusion of V-Drum and acoustic drum kit, the VAD706 presents itself: if you hide the cables well, it is visually almost indistinguishable from an acoustic drum kit, apart from the cymbals. Thanks to the available gloss finishes in Natural, Pearl White, Ebony and Cherry, everyone can find a suitable instrument here.

TD-27 Sound Module
Designed for advanced drummers and live musicians with high demands, and for recording applications.
TD-27KV2
A highlight of the TD-27KV2 is the large, high-quality 14-inch snare pad with an authentic feel. In addition to the large snare, the full-size toms and the thin cymbals provide an extremely authentic acoustic playing feel. The real strength lies in the TD-27 sound module with its many professional features. Alongside extensive editing options to tailor the sound to your taste, the TD-27 module offers separate main-out and monitor stereo outputs, four additional trigger connectors to expand the drumset and three digital trigger inputs. These allow the connection of digital pads, which respond more accurately and sensitively and therefore feel more realistic. With the integrated 28-channel USB interface, the TD-27 can be connected directly to a computer for high-quality recording.
VAD504 and VAD507
For fans of the traditional drum look there is also the TD-27 in combination with the appearance of classic wooden shells. Either as the VAD503 with one tom and one crash pad, or as the VAD506 with two tom and two crash pads. The digital snare and ride pads are of course included in both models.

TD-17 Sound Module
Designed for intermediate players who don't just want to practise at home but also appreciate a more realistic playing feel at small gigs.
TD-17KV2
The highlight of the TD-17KV2 is clearly the TD-17 sound module with the sound engine of the flagship TD-50. This offers more professional connectivity, such as a stereo and a MIDI output as well as two further trigger inputs for additional pads. Particularly worth mentioning is the SD card slot, which allows your own sounds and samples to be loaded into the module, edited as desired and integrated into kits.
TD-17KVX2
The TD-17KVX2 offers an even more realistic playing feel. Here you'll find larger and higher-quality cymbal pads as well as an additional crash cymbal pad and a hi-hat pad for use with a hi-hat controller.
In addition, the TD-17 series has recently received some new Version 2 features. Newly developed thin cymbals deliver a high-end experience that comes surprisingly close to acoustic drumming. VAD307
The VAD307 combines the technology of the TD-17KVX2 with the look of an acoustic drum kit – best of both worlds! The VAD307 is a more compact kit within the VAD series. The shallow shells save space and weight, but thanks to the wooden shells the playing feel still feels immediately familiar.

TD-07 Sound Module
Designed for E-Drum newcomers who value more extensive editing options.
TD-07DMK
The TD-07DMK combines a compact setup, from the rack to the pads, with the sophisticated TD-07 module. With this you can edit, customise and add effects to every single sound from the 50 drum kits. In addition to the well-known coach and metronome functions, it also features Bluetooth connectivity. This allows you to connect a smartphone, tablet or computer in no time, enabling you to play along to your favourite songs, backing tracks or similar.
TD-07KV
The TD-07KV is regarded as the flagship of the TD-07 range. Compared with the TD-07DMK, the kick pad is not mounted on the rack but is a standalone component, offering a more realistic playing feel. Furthermore, the two cymbal pads are larger.
VAD-103
If you want the look to be as close to an acoustic drum kit as possible in addition to the playing feel, the VAD-103 is recommended. It is similarly equipped to the TD-07KVX, but instead of pads you get specially finished wooden shells like those found on a conventional drum kit.

TD-2 Sound Module
For kids and beginners with a smaller budget who are looking for their first drum kit.
TD-02K
The TD-02 series offers the world's best entry-level electronic drumming experience at an affordable price.
The TD-02K is the more compact of the two kits. With its height-adjustable stand it is ideal even for the youngest players. It features a snare pad, three tom pads, a quiet beaterless kick pedal and three cymbal pads (hi-hat, crash and ride). The TD-02 sound module contains 16 different drum kits across a variety of genres.
TD-02KV
The TD-02KV is the top model of the series. Unlike the TD-02K, it features a snare pad with a mesh head. This provides a more natural, acoustic stick feel and thus improves the playing experience. It also has a robust four-post stand that allows a wider playing layout, similar to an acoustic kit. If you're looking for an affordable beginner drum kit without having to compromise on quality and sound, choosing a kit from the TD-02 series is a no-brainer!
