Hamstead is a maker of high-quality, hand-built guitar amplifiers from South Cambridgeshire in the UK. The company grew out of a collaboration between guitarist Jim Bird and electrical engineer Jim Hamstead when they set out to replicate an old amplifier. The result was the Hamstead Artist, which focuses on maximum tonal flexibility — whether clean or distorted — and also sounds wonderful when used with effects pedals. The Artist is available in 20- and 60-watt versions, as a combo and as a head. A matching speaker cabinet is also offered for the latter. In addition to amplifiers, Hamstead also manufactures beautifully sounding, high-quality effects pedals, from preamps and overdrives to tremolo.
