After Tom Murphy, the ageing expert in the Gibson Custom Shop, realised that he could hardly keep up with the flood of orders when building guitars, a solution was needed. It's called the Murphy Lab and makes every electric guitar lover's mouth water. After decades of experience and refinement, Tom Murphy has developed an artificial ageing process for electric guitars that can even fool true connoisseurs of vintage guitars, including Gibson's top management. Now Tom Murphy himself has assembled a hand-picked team that he has initiated into his secret tricks and working methods and which is now responsible for all ageing matters in the Gibson Custom Shop.
Ultra light aged or would you like a bit more?
There are four different ageing levels: Ultra light aged (formerly VOS), light aged, heavy aged and ultra heavy aged. In addition to guitars that come directly from the Murphy Lab, you can also order these ageing levels as a package for any Gibson Custom Shop list guitar and, of course, for any specially made “Made to Measure” guitar.
