Cort Gold

With the Gold series, Cort introduces an all-solid acoustic guitar series with thermally treated tops and bracing. Cort calls this process ‘Aged to Vintage’, which imitates the ageing process of the top over decades. Right from the start, you get the wonderfully full, overtone-rich and balanced sound that you know from old, well-recorded instruments. The ‘Doublelock Neckjoint’ was also developed as another important element for the best possible sound. This improves the transmission of vibrations by additionally bolting the neck to the body.

All about the Cort Gold-Serie

Vintage sound - modern feeling

The guitars in the Cort Gold series were created in an attempt to combine modern playability and features with a vintage sound. A vintage instrument is the holy grail of acoustic guitar tone. The wood of the top hardens and opens up more and more over time. This releases a sound quality that is lacking in new instruments - until now. Using a special process called ATV (Aged To Vintage) at Cort, the solid Sitka spruce top is treated to give it the big and open tone of a decades-old, highly sought-after acoustic guitar. This torrefaction process gives you that amazing sound right out of the box.

Expert knowledge: Aged to Vintage top and bracing

Using a special process called ATV (Aged To Vintage), luthiers treat the solid Sitka spruce top and bracing to achieve the big, open tone of a decades-old, highly sought-after acoustic guitar. This torrefaction is a process in which spruce tops (before being installed in the guitar body) are roasted in ovens normally used to dry wood so it can be finished. Roasting gives the wood a slightly darker colour and at the same time slightly changes its structure, giving it new tonal characteristics. Torrefied spruce tops in particular tend to sound warmer and sweeter, giving them a well-rehearsed quality that you would expect from a much older piece of wood. While torrefaction can't replicate the effects of decades of age and playing, it does add tonal depth without losing the clarity, articulation or volume typical of spruce.
