Ampeg
In 1946, Everette Hull and Stanley Michaels founded Michaels-Hull Electronic Labs and began selling their new, microphoned pickup. The Amplified Peg, or Ampeg for short, was intended for double basses. Hull was the inventor of the pickup and renamed the company Ampeg in 1949 after Michaels left the company.
Since then, Ampeg has brought numerous innovative and patented products to market. In the 1960s, Ampeg was the first company to bring an amplifier with built-in reverb to market. In 1969, Ampeg developed the most powerful instrumentation amplifier ever built. The SVT bass amplifier not only had 300 watts of pure tube power, but also introduced a new tube technology, the so-called Super Valve Technology, or SVT for short. Since then, the SVT has proven its practical suitability and remains one of the most widely used bass amplifiers in the world.
Even today, Ampeg is still one of the leading manufacturers of bass amplifiers and accessories. In 2018, Ampeg was acquired by the Yamaha Group and is still committed to producing high-quality, innovative amplifiers that combine everything a bass player needs.
