Western guitars for children

Western guitars are acoustic guitars with steel strings and a narrower neck. They are particularly suitable for accompanying chord playing and are an essential part of blues, country or pop music. It has been hard to imagine contemporary music without it for several decades, and stars such as Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift have recently made this type of guitar very popular. In addition to different body shapes, there are also smaller models that are suitable for younger musicians. These are often offered as travel or hiking guitars.

Electric guitars for children

The electric guitar probably needs no further introduction. It is probably the most influential musical instrument of the post-war period and is still very popular. For a long time there was little to no size difference in the electric guitar sector, but today some companies offer models in reduced size to make it easier for even the littlest ones to get started. However, it should be noted that an amplifier and a cable also need to be purchased.

Classical guitars for children

The concert guitar or “classical guitar” is, who would have thought, the classic among entry-level guitars. One of the reasons for this is that they are strung with nylon strings, which makes pressing down much easier, especially at the beginning. The fact that the strings are further apart is also very helpful for beginners when learning. Due to this popularity among young beginners, classical guitars are also offered in smaller sizes, such as 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 or 7/8. This refers to the length of the so-called “scale length” (the distance between the bridge and the saddle, i.e. the length of the strings) compared to a normal-sized guitar, which then logically corresponds to 4/4. But it's like buying shoes - trying them on or trying them out is a must! In addition to body size, hands and general well-being when handling also play a decisive role in the fun factor of the new hobby. However, the following values can serve as a reference:

height Guitar size
110 to 130cm 1/4 scale length
120 to 140cm 1/2 scale length
130 to 150 cm 3/4 scale length
140 to 160 cm 7/8 scale length
from 150 cm 4/4 scale length (normal size)
